Creating Item Elements

Creating Items

The toolbar insert rule button can be used to insert items within the grammar document or alternatively by right click of the mouse. The program will insert the item where the mouse cursor is located. There is no limit to the number of items that can be created. Simply type the phrase of the item into the white text are and press the enter button after each time you type or edit in this area.

Items are identified by the item icon which can be moved to any position on the screen. Connect the item to other items, rules or a one-of by selecting and holding from the "down arrow" as shown above to any other rule, item or one-of icon element on the screen. Grammar Studio will automatically create the code within the source view. Each item will identify itself as a normal item without any extra attributes (as shown above) or by showing the tag value in the center column of the item icon. Additionally, any item that is repeated or has a weight or ruleref will be shown by a R, W, or L identifyers on the left side of the item icon. Each of these identifyers can appear together or singular.

R Repeat value has been inserted within the item.
W Weight value has been inserted in the item.
L Rulerefs have been inserted in the item.

The items can be arranged in any style of position by connecting them or moving them around. However, upon refresh of the design view, each item will be neatly arranged on screen based on Grammar Studio's proprietary design view presentation layer.

Working with nested items

Items can be connected to each other through the design view connector arrow which will automatically insert the code needed to represent the design view. Nested items, rather, items which are connected to each other within a parent-child relationship can be collapsed or expanded by selecting the + or - sign for each item. The image below shows the arrow which represents a link to each design view icon.
