Kirusa and Voice Web Solutions Partner for End-to-End Multimodal Applications Creation and Deployment.
Industry’s First Comprehensive Environment for Authoring and Deploying SALT-based Mobile Multimodal Applications Announced.

CTIA Wireless 2003, New Orleans, LA; March 18, 2003 – Kirusa, the leading provider of multimodal platforms enabling wireless applications delivery, and Voice Web Solutions, the premier speech and multimodal tools provider, today announced integration of Voice Web Solutions’ multimodal authoring tool for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX™ with Kirusa’s multimodal platform, creating the first complete solution to author, test, and deploy mobile multimodal applications.

Kirusa's multimodal platform, offering SMS, sequential, and simultaneous multimodality, enables wireless phone and PDA users to request or add information by speaking a command, or by using visual inputs such as typing or tapping with a stylus. Application results can be delivered visually on the device screen, by voice, or through innovative combinations of both voice and visual modes. In addition to support for VoiceXML-based multimodal solutions, Kirusa’s platform supports the Speech Application Language Tags (SALT) specification for speech and multimodal application development, allowing speech capabilities to be easily added to mobile Web applications for improved usability and reduced task completion time. Using SALT and Kirusa’s simultaneous multimodal support, applications allowing users to use both voice and visual interactions at the same time can easily be developed and deployed for numerous advanced handsets, including those based on platforms such as Microsoft’s SmartPhone™, Symbian™ (e.g. Nokia’s Series 60 and Symbian OS Version 7 as used by Sony/Ericsson,) Qualcomm’s BREW™, and Microsoft’s PocketPC.

Voice Web Studio™, developed by Voice Web Solutions, empowers application developers to create their own highly accessible and usable SALT voice solutions and multimodal applications by using Macromedia’s popular and familiar Dreamweaver MX development software. As a plug in to Dreamweaver’s visual development environment, Voice Web Studio allows developers to rapidly build applications based on SALT that leverage any familiar Web scripting language. With Voice Web Studio, any Web page can listen for user input, play speech and audio prompts, and support sophisticated multimodal interaction such as playing a speech prompt when a page element is clicked, or visually confirming recognition of a spoken utterance.

The Kirusa-Voice Web Solutions joint offering provides mobile application developers with an exciting new way to swiftly develop applications that seamlessly integrate visual and voice interfaces. Mobile multimodal applications can be authored using Voice Web Studio in the familiar Dreamweaver MX visual development environment, and tested and deployed across a range of devices using Kirusa’s multimodal platform.

“As multimodality gains acceptance among network operators, enterprises, and vendors, tools to accelerate applications realization are increasingly crucial to the multimodal ecosystem,” said Sandeep Sibal, Chief Technology Officer and Founder of Kirusa. “We are thrilled to be working with Voice Web Solutions to bring SALT-based mobile multimodal applications development to the vast community of Web developers who use Dreamweaver.”

“We believe multimodality will be a catalyst for mobile applications development and adoption,” said Brian Graham, President and Chief Architect of Voice Web Solutions. “By integrating Voice Web Studio with Kirusa’s market-leading multimodal platform, we know that we are enabling phenomenal opportunities for developers to create multimodal applications for the widest range of emerging mobile devices and networks.”
