Trouble ShootingUninstalling the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in on a system with Microsoft Office XP Uninstalling the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in may leave the Microsoft Office XP speech functionality in an unusable state. Workaround: 1. Open Speech in Control Panel 2. Dismiss the error message by clicking OK 3. Click the Speech Recognition tab of the Speech Control Panel 4. Change the Default Speech Recognition engine to "Microsoft English ASR Version 5 Engine" 5. Click Apply to save the changes
After installing the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in, the Microsoft Speech Add-in Start Page gives a script error. Workaround: From the Control Panel, go to Add/Remove Programs and select the Microsoft Speech Add-in component. Uninstall this component and then re-install and try the start page again. UsageUsing the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in with the Language Bar The Language Bar is a tool that controls Speech, Handwriting and IME input to the system. After installing the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in, it may manifest as a floating toolbar with a Microphone button, Dictation and Voice Command options. In this version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in, ensure that the Microphone button is on the "off" mode and no Voice Command or Dictation options are visible. Using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in with Terminal Services In this version, the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in does not function with Terminal Services such as Terminal Server and Remote Desktop. It is recommended that the Microsoft Internet Explorer Speech Add-in not be used in these scenarios.
